On Sep 27th , XRF Technology Exchange Meeting on Application in Shoe Material & Leathers Industry sponsored by Skyray Instrument was held in Dong guan, Guang dong province. 150 participants from shoe industry took part in it. On the theme of newest regulations of European textile shoe products and XRF technology applications, Skyray Instrument shared experience and solutions with them.
Recently, lots of regulations had been issued on shoe material and leathers industry: in early 2011, new requirements to cadmium and phthalic acid salt (DEHP, DBP, BBP) in clothing, shoes, and other fashion goods were put forward in California 65 ACTS; on March 3rd 2011, CPSC held hearing and discussed possibility of reducing lead content to 100ppm in base material and stipulated feasibility of applying HD XRF technology to coat testing; on Feb 21th, European chemicals administration proposes to list 7 kinds of carcinogenic or reproductive toxicity chemicals on Substances of Very High Concerned (SVHC) and material may need to be authorized before using. SVHC will account to 53 kinds.
Quality control director DaiVS from US major shoe manufacturer JAMLAR presided over this exchange meeting and lectured on the topic of shoe material quality control. DaiVS said, testing of hazardous elements became more and more important in US and European and more strict regulations are proposed to shoe materials.
Doctor Yao Dongliang detailed XRF applications in shoe materials testing. He pointed out that XRF features rapid, non-destructive, and accurate, which has been widely applied in shoe materials testing. Several Skyray instruments can be used for shoe materials testing and all of them fit to the European and US regulations. “HD 1800B is specially designed for hazardous elements testing such as Cadmium, lead, mercury, chromium, arsenic, etc. LC 310—high-performace Liquid Chromatography can be used to detect phthalic acid salt, five chlorine phenol, PAH and other harmful elements in leathers.”
